Professionals Encouraged to Volunteer Skills for Community Development

·

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) is calling on professionals to lend their expertise to support community development efforts. During an interview with the city’s information office, PNVSCA Executive Director Donald James Gawe highlighted that volunteerism is often linked to disaster response and social welfare, but professionals in areas such as financial counseling, engineering, and IT can also play a crucial role.

Gawe suggested the creation of a platform to facilitate the involvement of professionals from various sectors. His comments came during his visit to Cagayan de Oro City for the National Volunteer Month celebrations, which included the launch of a Volunteer Expo. The expo, held in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Northern Mindanao and other partner organizations, showcased community initiatives and fostered collaboration.

The event also featured job opportunities, with 1,045 vacancies available from 10 local employers and two overseas recruitment agencies, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment. Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare and Development offered consultations and referrals to social services.

The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Month is ‘Igniting Volunteer-Led Innovation for Future Growth and Social Transformation,’ emphasizing the transformative potential of volunteerism.
