In a significant development in the fight against terrorism, three members of the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) have surrendered to the military in Lanao del Sur. The surrender took place in Barangay Matalin, Malabang, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, as reported by the 64th Infantry Battalion (64IB). The trio, who have been active since the 2017 Marawi siege, handed over three high-powered firearms, including a modified M-14 rifle and two Garand rifles, complete with magazines and ammunition.

Lt. Col. Abel Potutan, the commander of the 64IB, described the surrender as a pivotal step forward in the government’s efforts to dismantle the DI-MG in the region. He praised the battalion’s operations for their effectiveness in neutralizing threats and promoting peace. Potutan emphasized that this event underscores the 64IB’s commitment to maintaining lasting peace and security in their area of responsibility.

The military is actively encouraging other DI-MG members to lay down their arms and reintegrate into society, aligning with the broader government initiatives for peace and reconciliation.
