In response to the heartbreaking loss of three young scouts in Zamboanga City, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) has issued a nationwide suspension of all outdoor scouting events. The decision was announced in a statement released on Thursday, which was also shared by BSP National President and Agusan del Norte 2nd District Representative Dale Corvera on his Facebook page. The BSP conveyed its deep sorrow over the incident, stating, ‘We mourn the loss of our three young scouts from Zamboanga City Council. This tragic event has caused profound sadness within the scouting community, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones during this challenging time.’ The tragedy occurred at a campsite on Mount Abong-Abong in Barangay Pasonanca, where the three scouts were fatally electrocuted. According to preliminary reports, the incident happened when a group of ten scouts inadvertently touched a canopy to a live electrical wire. The BSP has reiterated its dedication to the safety and welfare of all its members, highlighting its commitment to rigorous safety protocols for organizing and conducting scouting activities, including jamborees. The organization is also conducting a thorough review of the incident to enhance its current policies and procedures for future scouting events.
