Camp John Hay Golf Club Navigates Transition to BCDA While Protecting Shareholder Rights

·

In Baguio City, the Camp John Hay Golf Club (CJHGC) has voiced its support for a seamless transition of its leased property to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), while firmly standing to protect the rights of its over 1,039 shareholders. During a press conference on December 19, 2024, CJHGC General Manager Judson Austaquio emphasized the club’s respect for a recent Supreme Court decision that acknowledges the independent rights of stakeholders like the Golf Club.

The Supreme Court’s decision upheld a 2015 arbitral ruling that mandated CJH Development Corporation (CJHDevCo) to relinquish the leased property back to BCDA. However, Austaquio clarified that the Golf Club operates independently from CJHDevCo and is not subject to the arbitration’s outcomes. The club maintains a direct relationship with BCDA and underscores the validity of its SEC-registered membership certificates until 2047.

Austaquio praised BCDA’s dedication to ensuring business continuity and a smooth transition, expressing the Golf Club’s willingness to collaborate. He highlighted the club’s aspirations to preserve its status as a leading golf destination amidst these changes.

Legal counsel Carlos Viktor Poblador reassured members that legal efforts are underway to safeguard their rights, including an ongoing injunction and a damages petition at Baguio City’s Regional Trial Court Branch 79.

Despite the impending management change, Austaquio guaranteed uninterrupted operations, ensuring the security of 188 employees and 156 accredited caddies. Established in 1999, the Golf Club continues to offer shares for sale, currently priced at PHP720,000 each, with 1,500 shares still available.
