In a recent confrontation in Tapaz, Capiz, a member of a previously dismantled communist group was killed by government forces. The clash occurred in Sitio Naatip, Barangay Lahug, over the weekend, involving troops from the Philippine Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion. The encounter, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, began around 12:47 p.m. and was initiated after local reports of armed rebels in the area prompted a swift military response. The deceased was identified as part of the Regional Sentro De Gravidad and Central Front of the dismantled Komiteng Rehiyon – Panay. The military also recovered one rifle and five backpacks from the site. Major General Marion Sison, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, emphasized that this operation underscores the Army’s ongoing dedication to protecting the safety and freedom of the residents of Western and Central Visayas. Sison also called on the community to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, particularly during the holiday season.
