New Year Fireworks Mishaps Leave Three Injured in Caraga Region

In the Caraga Region, the Department of Health (DOH-13) reported a total of seven injuries related to firecrackers between December 1, 2024, and January 1, 2025. Among these, three incidents occurred during the New Year’s festivities spanning from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025. According to the DOH-13, five of the injured were minors, aged between eight and twelve, who sustained various wounds and burns. The youngest victim, an eight-year-old boy from Sison, Surigao del Norte, suffered a laceration on his upper lip from a firecracker called ‘Lata de Cañon.’ On the other end of the age spectrum, a 46-year-old man from Trento, Agusan del Sur, was injured in the eye by a ‘Picolo’ firecracker. The distribution of the injuries across the region included three in Agusan del Sur, two in Surigao del Norte, and one each in Surigao del Sur and Butuan City. All victims received medical attention and were subsequently discharged from the hospital.
