Bicol Police Bolster Security Ahead of Election Day

·

In preparation for the upcoming national and local elections scheduled for May 12, the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has announced an increase in security measures. Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon, the director of PRO-5, emphasized the importance of these steps in maintaining peace and order during the electoral process.

A gun ban will be enforced from January 12 to June 11, 2025, as part of the comprehensive security strategy. Dizon highlighted that this ban, mandated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), is crucial in preventing gun-related incidents and ensuring a safe environment for voters.

To further enhance security, PRO-5 will conduct intensified checkpoint operations at strategic locations across Bicol. Dizon urged the public to cooperate fully with these measures, advising motorists and commuters to carry identification documents to ease the process at checkpoints.

Dizon stressed the significance of public cooperation in upholding the gun ban and adhering to security protocols. He noted that checkpoints will not only monitor compliance with the gun ban but also address other violations, including the transport of contraband or unauthorized items.

The Philippine National Police in Bicol underscored the vital role of community support in the success of these security initiatives. Dizon reiterated the police’s commitment to fair, professional, and impartial policing throughout the election period, emphasizing the collective responsibility to protect the democratic process and the welfare of voters.
