In a significant drug bust in Burgos, La Union, law enforcement officials seized more than PHP2.28 million worth of dried marijuana and apprehended five key suspects during a Saturday operation. Lt. Col. Benigno Sumawang from the Ilocos Police Regional Office (PRO-1) disclosed that the haul included 19 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves, which were discovered in Barangay New Poblacion. The successful operation led to the arrest of a diverse group of individuals: a 46-year-old farmer from Santol, La Union; a 33-year-old farmer from Kapangan, Benguet; a 28-year-old unemployed person from Sugpon, Ilocos Sur; a 25-year-old without employment from Kapangan, Benguet; and a 23-year-old student from Sugpon, Ilocos Sur. The marijuana was found in 19 elongated packages sealed with tape, and these were subsequently handed over to the Regional Forensic Unit in San Fernando City, La Union, for further analysis. The arrested individuals are currently detained at the Burgos Municipal Police Station and are facing charges related to drug trafficking.
