Cebu City’s Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has publicly commended Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) for their significant contribution to the city’s housing initiatives. The company donated the Sugbu Walk Up One Condominium, a mid-rise building in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel, to support the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) program, aimed at providing homes for underprivileged families. The donation was formalized through a deed of donation signed on Monday, marking the transfer of ownership to the Cebu City government.
The building will serve as a new home for over 100 families who were displaced due to a riverside cleanup that enforced a three-meter easement along city rivers. The signing ceremony saw the presence of key figures including CLI’s CEO Jose Soberano III, Director Lyndon Juntilla from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development-Central Visayas, and Ronald Librando, Executive Director of the Department for the Welfare of the Urban Poor.
Mayor Garcia expressed his hope that CLI’s act of social responsibility would inspire other developers to follow suit, setting a precedent for corporate involvement in community welfare. He highlighted CLI as a model for how businesses can contribute positively to society. Additionally, Garcia has instructed Jade Ponce, head of the Local Housing Board, to scout for another location suitable for a similar housing project. He mentioned a potential site in Barangay Budlaan, a 9,000-square meter plot previously swapped with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, as a possible location for future development.
