In response to the threat of heavy rainfall from easterly winds, the Davao Region saw widespread suspension of classes and work on January 15, 2025. The provincial government of Davao Occidental took the lead by ordering a halt to all educational and work activities in both private and public sectors, encouraging government employees to work remotely. Similarly, Davao Oriental’s Mati City and San Isidro town preemptively suspended classes and work due to forecasts of severe weather conditions. In Davao del Norte, multiple local governments including the Island Garden City of Samal, Panabo City, Asuncion, and San Isidro issued directives to suspend all levels of classes and work. Davao de Oro also saw suspensions across several municipalities: Montevista, Compostela, Monkayo, New Bataan, and Maco, with varying levels of suspension from classes only to both classes and work. Regional authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and keep abreast of weather updates amidst these conditions.
