In San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, preparations are ramping up for the upcoming Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet, scheduled from March 1 to 8, 2025. The province has committed a budget of PHP29 million to ensure the readiness of the facilities. At the heart of these preparations is the repair of the rubberized oval track at the Binirayan Sports Complex, a critical venue for the event. Dr. Oliver Servillon, the sports coordinator for the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique, emphasized the urgency of these renovations, targeting a completion date of February 15, 2025. Alongside the track, the Provincial Engineering Office is also overseeing repairs at 12 billeting schools, which include fixing lighting, ceilings, doors, and other essential components. Servillon expressed optimism about Antique’s performance at the meet, especially since they are hosting, and reminded the local athletes of their fourth-place finish in the previous year’s WVRAA in Negros Occidental. Approximately 500 athletes from Antique are set to compete in various sports, representing their province with pride.
