In a recent crackdown in Talisay City, Cebu, a former soldier named Rosevile, aged 48, was among six individuals arrested for breaching the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban. Rosevile, who had gone AWOL from the military and was working as a butcher, was apprehended at his home in Sitio Florida, Barangay Dumlog. The arrest was executed by the Talisay City Police Office, who acted on a search warrant issued by Judge Romeo Reyes Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 7. The police seized a .45 caliber pistol along with five live rounds from Rosevile’s residence. Local complaints about his behavior while intoxicated and possible involvement in illegal drug use prompted the police action against him.
In addition to Rosevile, intensified police patrols led to the arrest of five other men for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. A 30-year-old was caught in Sitio Didos, Barangay Linao, with a .38 caliber revolver and three live rounds. Another man, aged 38, was arrested in Purok Mangga, Barangay Candulawan, possessing a .45 caliber pistol and three live rounds. A 34-year-old was nabbed in Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Linao, carrying a .38 caliber revolver. Two 20-year-olds were also arrested; one in Purok Tambis, Barangay Pooc, with a .357 revolver and two live rounds, and the other in Barangay San Roque, carrying a .22 revolver with four live rounds but no documentation. All six suspects are now in custody, facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as violations of the Comelec gun ban.
