In a compassionate response to a tragic incident, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has extended financial aid to the families of eight Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from Tabaco City, Albay, who were involved in a vehicular accident in Laguna. The accident, which occurred at midnight on January 20 in Alaminos, Laguna, resulted in one death and left seven others severely injured. DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio confirmed that the assistance was facilitated through the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program. Each affected family received PHP5,000 to help cover transportation costs to visit their loved ones in the hospital. Additionally, DSWD-5 is coordinating with the DSWD in Calabarzon to provide medical assistance to the injured and is preparing to offer funeral assistance to the family of the deceased SK official, with the amount to be determined by an ongoing assessment. Laurio emphasized the agency’s commitment to maintaining close communication with the families and the local government of Tabaco City to ensure comprehensive support during this challenging time.
