Cebu City Praises PDEA and K9 ‘Bayani’ for Seizing P170-M Shabu at Pier 4

Cebu City officials have expressed their appreciation for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) following a significant drug bust at Pier 4, where PHP170 million worth of suspected shabu was confiscated. The operation, which took place last Thursday, was highlighted during a flag-raising ceremony at Cebu City Hall on Monday, where Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia commended the PDEA’s efforts.

Mayor Garcia specifically acknowledged the contribution of ‘Bayani,’ the K9 unit dog whose detection skills led to the discovery of the drugs concealed within a vehicle on a Roll-on Roll-off vessel from Masbate. The mayor praised the operation as one of the largest drug seizures in recent times and reaffirmed the city’s commitment to supporting PDEA’s anti-drug initiatives.

The successful operation resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old truck driver and his 63-year-old mother, who were found transporting 25 kilos of shabu in a red sedan. Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, director of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, attributed the success of the operation to intelligence-driven strategies.

The bust was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Naval Forces Central, PNP Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit, PNP Maritime Group, Philippine Coast Guard, Cebu Port Authority Police, Bureau of Customs, and Cebu City Police Office’s Police Station 4.
