In a strategic move to ensure tranquility during the upcoming elections, the Bicol region’s military has ramped up its internal security operations. Maj. Frank Roldan, spokesperson for the 9th Infantry Division (9ID), emphasized that their primary focus is on counter-insurgency and supporting law enforcement efforts. This initiative is part of a broader effort to maintain peace, particularly during the critical election period.
Roldan highlighted the division’s community support program, which aims to engage with the public, especially in remote areas. He noted that under the guidance of Maj. Gen. Noe Alberto Peñafiel, the 9ID commander, the division is actively involved in various counterinsurgency operations and law enforcement support activities. Additionally, the military is conducting continuous information dissemination campaigns and civil-military operations to foster a peaceful environment.
The commitment to these efforts was further solidified during a recent visit by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. to the 9ID headquarters in Pili, Camarines Sur, and the 2nd and 96th Infantry Battalions in Masbate province. Peñafiel expressed gratitude for Brawner’s visit, which significantly boosted the morale of the troops. He acknowledged the soldiers’ dedication and sacrifices, particularly during last year’s Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, where they played a crucial role in assisting the Bicolano community.
During his visit, Brawner reminded the soldiers to steer clear of political discussions on social media and to concentrate on their duties as peacekeepers. He commended the achievements of the 9ID and Joint Task Force Bicol in 2024, emphasizing the importance of mutual support among the troops and encouraging them to voice their concerns and seek assistance when necessary.
