Lanao del Sur’s First District Representative, Ziaur-Rahman Adiong, announced on Thursday that the House of Representatives is currently waiting for the Senate to review and pass their version of a bill that proposes to delay the inaugural Bangsamoro parliament election. Adiong expressed gratitude towards President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for recognizing the urgency of the legislation he introduced, which seeks to reschedule the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliament elections from May 12, 2025, to May 11, 2026. Adiong voiced confidence in the Senate’s ability to understand the critical nature of the bill and to act in the best interests of the Bangsamoro community. The House approved its version of the bill on December 17, 2024, and promptly sent it to the Senate the next day. Adiong highlighted that the certification by Marcos underscores the national government’s dedication to fostering a democratic, stable, and inclusive electoral environment in the Bangsamoro region. This proposed delay represents a significant first for the nation, as the BARMM parliament elections were initially planned to align with the 2025 national and local midterm elections.
