In a series of confrontations in the Caraga region, government troops from the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) successfully engaged with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, resulting in the deaths of two rebels and the capture of four others. The operations took place in Butuan City and Surigao del Sur on January 28, 2025. In Butuan City, a 10-minute firefight in Sitio Dinakpan, Barangay Los Angeles, led to the demise of two NPA members. The military recovered significant items including an AK-47 rifle, a Bushmaster rifle, medical supplies, and personal belongings. Simultaneously, in Barangay Pong-on, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur, the 3rd Special Forces Battalion encountered NPA rebels twice. After the initial clash, an AK-47 rifle, three backpacks, and medical supplies were seized. The second encounter resulted in the apprehension of four insurgents. Brig. Gen. Michele Anayron Jr., the 4ID commander, highlighted these operations as a testament to their commitment to quelling the long-standing insurgency and fostering peace in Caraga. He also called on remaining NPA members to lay down their arms and participate in government reintegration initiatives.
