·

On its 15th anniversary as a city, Biñan in Laguna province showcased its unwavering commitment to the arts and cultural heritage. The celebration, held on February 2, 2025, was marked by the inauguration of the Biñan City Center for Performing Arts, attended by renowned Filipino musician and composer Ryan Cayabyab. The event also featured the debut of ‘Chimes,’ the city’s official sound, composed and performed by Cayabyab.

Mayor Walfredo Dimaguila Jr. emphasized the importance of the new center as a sanctuary for artistic expression, where creativity and imagination can flourish. He highlighted the center’s role in telling stories, realizing dreams, and transforming hearts through the works of local artists.

In addition to its focus on the arts, Biñan continues to preserve its historical landmarks, such as the Alberto Mansion, the ancestral home of Teodora Alonso, mother of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. This oldest surviving structure in the city symbolizes Biñan’s rich history and its contribution to the nation’s identity.

Despite the challenges of rapid urbanization, Biñan remains dedicated to balancing development with cultural preservation. The City Council’s declaration of August 7, 2024, to August 7, 2025, as Theater Arts Year further solidifies Biñan’s position as a cultural hub in the region.

The city also commemorated its 80th anniversary of liberation from Japanese forces and its 278th founding anniversary, reflecting on its journey of resilience, progress, and cultural preservation.
