Eight Surigao City Barangays Honored with 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance

·

In a commendable achievement, eight barangays in Surigao City have been awarded the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB), as announced by the city government on Wednesday. The honored barangays include Buenavista, Cabongbongan, Ipil, Poctoy, San Roque, Taft, Togbongon, and Washington. These communities have successfully adhered to the ‘3+1 principle’ as stipulated in the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Memorandum Circular No. 2023-103. The principle requires excellence in three core areas of governance: financial administration, disaster preparedness, and safety, peace, and order. Additionally, these barangays excelled in at least one other area, such as social protection, business competitiveness, or environmental management. Surigao City expressed immense pride in these eight barangays, highlighting their commitment to exemplary governance and public service. Out of the 41,610 barangays evaluated across the nation last year, only 3,283, or 7.89 percent, achieved the SGLG standards. The city praised the dedication of its barangay officials and residents, noting that this recognition reinforces Surigao City’s dedication to transparent, efficient, and responsive governance.
