In a move to bolster disaster management, Iligan City has allocated PHP27 million for the acquisition of a mobile satellite communication system. This decision was announced in Cagayan de Oro City by Armien Alloro, who leads the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office. The system is designed to streamline disaster response efforts by serving as a backup communication tool. Alloro emphasized that the new system will not only facilitate communication but also activate an alarm system and collect mapping data crucial for emergency operations. This investment aims to ensure that emergency responders have a reliable communication line during crises. The purchase aligns with the mandates of Republic Act 10121, known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, which obligates local governments to enhance their disaster response capabilities through upgraded facilities and equipment.
