In a significant move to support local agriculture, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) has disbursed a total of PHP900,000 to two farmers’ associations in Paquibato District, Davao City. This initiative was announced by the 89th Infantry Battalion (89IB) on February 12, 2025. The Pegdalahan Tribes Farmers Sustainable Livelihood Program Association, located in Barangay Pandaitan, and the Kinse-Kinse Farmers Association, based in Barangay Salapawan, each received PHP450,000. These funds are intended to serve as seed capital for their general merchandise businesses. 2Lt. Queency Duhig, the community development officer of 89IB, emphasized that the initiative is designed to empower local communities, particularly those including members of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary. The Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) under which this aid is provided, focuses on capacity building and improving socioeconomic conditions through various support mechanisms such as seed capital, funds for building livelihood assets, skills training, and employment assistance.
