In a significant move to bolster agricultural development, the Antique provincial board has officially adopted the Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita, or Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP), into its local governance framework. This decision was made during a regular session held on February 17, 2025, in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique. The KNP, a key initiative of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., aims to enhance agricultural productivity, secure food supplies, and expand income opportunities for the region’s farmers and fisherfolk.
Board Member Karmila Rose Dimamay, who sponsored the ordinance, emphasized the critical role of agriculture in the province’s economic growth, food security, and the enhancement of socio-economic conditions for farmers, their families, and consumers. The ordinance, authored by Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, is designed to strengthen collaborations between farmers, local government units, and other stakeholders, while also promoting modern agricultural practices through capacity-building programs.
With the formalization of KNP, Antique will host monthly marketing or trade fairs where participating farmers and fisherfolk will be exempt from registration fees. The provincial government has committed to supporting these events by providing logistical assistance, including venue setup, tables, tents, chairs, and other necessary infrastructure. Additionally, an annual budget of PHP2 million has been allocated for the operations and activities related to KNP.
The Provincial Agriculture Office will play a pivotal role in coordinating efforts among various government departments such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Labor and Employment, local government units, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and farmer organizations. A dedicated task force will also be established to devise and execute strategies to further promote the KNP program across the province.
