The Philippine Army is intensifying its recruitment drive for the Ready Reserve Battalion (RRB) in Negros Oriental, urging more locals to volunteer and bolster the ranks needed for national emergencies and security support. Colonel William Pesase, leading the 703rd Community Defense Center, emphasized the critical role of reservists in responding to crises, including natural disasters and territorial defense issues like those in the West Philippine Sea and around Mt. Kanlaon.
On February 16, 2025, a group of 105 volunteers completed a rigorous 10-day Company Integration Training at the 11th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Siaton, Negros Oriental. This training, designed to prepare reservists for integration with regular forces, included simulations of disaster response and security operations. Colonel Pesase highlighted that the training equips reservists with skills comparable to those of full-time soldiers, including proficiency in marksmanship.
Reservists, who are not full-time military personnel, are expected to return to their civilian jobs until mobilized for active duty. The call for more volunteers comes as the current battalion strength in the province remains below full capacity. The 703rd Community Defense Center and the RRB are stationed at Camp Leon Kilat in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, ready to serve when called upon.
