In a significant move to support the underprivileged, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 5 (Bicol) distributed livelihood kits to 21 marginalized individuals in Goa, Camarines Sur. The distribution took place on Monday, February 17, 2025, as part of the DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), aimed at enhancing the income and business skills of its beneficiaries.
Assistant Director Nepomuceno Leaño of DOLE-5 emphasized the importance of the equipment provided, which included a variety of tools such as dressmaking and baking equipment, carpentry and tile-setting tools, and supplies for peanut butter making, meat processing, refrigeration, and food vending. The total value of the distributed items reached PHP450,006.
Leaño encouraged the recipients to use the equipment to develop their businesses and improve their daily livelihoods. He also advised them to keep records of their activities to be eligible for the Kabuhayan Awards, which could provide further assistance.
One of the beneficiaries, Jiezel Gutierrez, a 42-year-old dressmaker from Barangay Salog, expressed her gratitude for the support. As the primary earner for her family, the new materials will significantly boost her sewing business, allowing her to produce more items like uniforms. Additionally, Gutierrez plans to teach her mother how to sew rags, providing her with a new source of income.
This initiative by DOLE not only aids in the immediate financial relief of the beneficiaries but also fosters skill development and potential for future growth.
