Tropical Depression Querubin and Shearline to Cause Rainfall in Visayas and Mindanao

·

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted that Tropical Depression Querubin, combined with a shearline, will lead to significant rainfall across the Visayas and Mindanao regions. As of early Wednesday, Querubin was positioned 230 km east of Davao City and 205 km east of Tagum City, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts reaching up to 55 kph. Davao Oriental remains under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1, expecting continued rain and gusty winds.

PAGASA predicts that Querubin will cause scattered rains and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region. The shearline will also bring similar weather conditions to the Bicol Region and Quezon. The trough of Querubin will extend these conditions across the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.

Heavy to intense rainfall is anticipated in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in the Bicol Region, Quezon, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte.

Querubin is expected to weaken into a remnant low pressure area within the next 24 hours, moving across Mindanao, the Sulu Sea, and Palawan from Thursday to Sunday. Although weakening is anticipated, there is a possibility that the remnant low could redevelop into a tropical depression once it reaches the West Philippine Sea.

PAGASA also reported that moderate to strong winds and rough coastal waters will affect the northern and eastern parts of the country, as well as the western section of Northern Luzon. In other areas, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.
