Republic Act No. 12124 has been signed into law by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., establishing the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP). This new law enhances opportunities for obtaining higher education by acknowledging nontraditional learning and granting academic degrees to those with expertise acquired outside typical academic environments.
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is responsible for creating a thorough framework to evaluate previous learning, job experience, and skills training under this initiative.
Flexible learning options will be available, ensuring that adult learners, working professionals, and those unable to enroll in regular classes have various routes to earn recognized credentials.
Higher education institutions meeting certain criteria will have the authority to provide equivalency and accreditation services under Republic Act No. 12124.
CHED will also oversee the law’s application, ensuring that high quality is maintained across all participating institutions.
This legislation is set to benefit Filipinos both domestically and internationally, allowing them to transform their work experience and previous learning into academic credits.
Upon implementation, the expanded program is expected to accommodate thousands of learners pursuing higher education credentials through unconventional methods.
The law will go into effect fifteen days after its publication in the Official Gazette or a widely circulated newspaper.
