Senator Bong Go praised the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) for expanding its health coverage to include surgeries for ventricular septal defects and tetralogy of fallot, two severe congenital heart conditions commonly affecting newborns. This expanded coverage by PhilHealth officially took effect on March 1.
In a statement delivered in Filipino, Senator Go highlighted the significance of this move, emphasizing, “Many Filipino families struggle to afford these critical medical procedures, and financial constraints should never claim the life of a child.”
He further noted, “Thanks to PhilHealth’s enhanced support, we can now save more vulnerable infants. I intend to closely follow the effective implementation of this program, guaranteeing that assistance reaches all who urgently require it.”
As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Senator Go previously emphasized in Senate hearings the need for PhilHealth to prioritize coverage for the Philippines’ top ten leading causes of death, including congenital heart defects, other serious cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
