The acting director of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG), Police Colonel Elmer Ragay, has been officially relieved from his duties effective February 28 for administrative reasons, according to a statement from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
This administrative decision, announced by PNP Chief Police General Rommel Marbil, follows an ongoing investigation related to the kidnapping incident involving a Chinese international student in Taguig City.
Authorities are currently examining specific details, such as why the specialized anti-kidnapping unit was not at the forefront of the rescue mission, why there were no immediate apprehensions made, and under what exact conditions the victim was recovered.
The kidnapping took place on February 20 in Taguig City, targeting a 14-year-old student from China. The Movement for Restoration of Peace and Order (MRPO) initially reported the incident, with the victim eventually being rescued on February 25.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated on Wednesday that initial investigations point toward a known syndicate, previously linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) activities, as responsible for orchestrating the kidnapping.
