NLEX Announces Toll Rate Hike Effective This Sunday

·

NLEX Corporation is set to implement an increase in toll fees starting March 2nd. This adjustment involves adding P5 to the open system and 72 centavos per kilometer to the closed system.

The decision, reviewed thoroughly by the Toll Regulatory Board, represents the first tranche of approved periodic adjustments due in 2023 and accounts for the continued development and completion of the P7.7-billion Candaba 3rd Viaduct, slated for completion by 2024.

This toll increase was initially scheduled for 2023 but has been deferred and split into two stages to reduce the financial impact on motorists.

NLEX noted that travelers are already benefiting from the improved road conditions courtesy of the newly completed Candaba 3rd Viaduct, operational since its partial opening in August 2024 and fully completed by December the same year.

The latest upgrade fortifies connections between Metro Manila and regions in Central and Northern Luzon, providing an essential boost to tourism, trade, and commerce.

Under the revised fee matrix, Class 1 vehicle users (cars and SUVs) on the open system will now pay an extra P5, Class 2 vehicles (buses and small trucks) an added P13, and Class 3 vehicles will see an increase of P15. This open system spans from Metro Manila cities like Navotas, Valenzuela, and Caloocan, extending to Marilao, Bulacan.

The closed system fees, covering routes between Bocaue, Bulacan, Santa Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga, and Subic-Tipo, show Class 1 vehicles incurring a P57 rise, Class 2 vehicles face a P142 increase, while Class 3 vehicles face an added P171 for full-length travel from Metro Manila to Mabalacat City.

Improvements from 2021, including road and infrastructure enhancements, such as raising the San Simon area and expanding key exits in Meycauayan, have been achieved to heighten safety and convenience.

System upgrades were also installed at toll plazas, and two prominent projects are underway to further ease congestion. Notably, the NLEx-C5 Northlink’s first 2-kilometer stretch will commence connecting NLEx Mindanao plaza to Novaliches’ Quirino Highway. Additionally, expanding the San Fernando to SCTEx Spur aims to boost road capacity, introducing three lanes each way and enhancing lighting across the route.
