Senator Warns of Rising POGO-Linked Crimes Following Student Abduction

·

A recent raid on an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Bagac, Bataan, has raised alarms after the kidnapping of a student, believed to be connected to POGO activities. Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has voiced serious concerns, suggesting that without immediate and strong action, more criminal activities targeting children could emerge.

Gatchalian stressed the necessity for a thorough investigation and full accountability for those involved in the abduction. He warned that the incident is indicative of a broader trend where organized crime groups associated with POGOs are increasingly targeting minors.

The senator called for a united effort from schools, parents, communities, and law enforcement to enhance child protection measures. He emphasized the importance of schools working closely with parents and authorities to implement robust security protocols to safeguard students.

Additionally, Gatchalian highlighted the need for increased awareness among students to help them stay alert to potential threats. He also urged security forces to step up their efforts against terrorism, referencing the recent arrests of Chinese nationals suspected of espionage near critical government facilities, including Malacañang Palace.

The senator underscored the urgency of bolstering national security, especially amid tensions in the West Philippine Sea and growing global threats to peace.
