MANILA – The Philippine Navy announced on Friday its intention to bolster its naval defense ties with Pakistan.

This announcement followed a visit by a delegation from the 54th Pakistan Navy Staff Course at the Philippine Navy’s headquarters in Manila on February 26.

According to Philippine Navy spokesperson Capt. John Percie Alcos, the delegation included 21 officers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Turkey.

The delegation was led by Commodore Ahsen Ali Khan, who serves as the Pakistani Navy’s chief of naval staff for maritime affairs and policy research.

They were greeted by Rear Admiral Alan Javier, representing the Philippine Navy’s chief, Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta.

“This visit is more than just an educational exchange; it’s a chance to build mutual understanding, strengthen partnerships, and exchange knowledge and best practices,” stated Javier.

Alcos emphasized that the visit facilitated an exchange of knowledge, best practices, and strategies between the two navies, reinforcing their commitment to ongoing cooperation for regional security and stability.

The visit also underscored the potential for further cooperation, building on a longstanding history of friendship and joint training and exercises.

Alcos highlighted that such visits are crucial for fostering stronger naval cooperation and mutual understanding between the navies of Pakistan and the Philippines.

By sharing expertise and knowledge, these interactions enhance the capabilities of both navies to tackle regional maritime challenges, ensuring continued collaboration for enhanced maritime security and stability in the region. (Philippine News Agency)
