The event, named ‘Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli,’ took place on February 27, 2025, and was attended by key government officials including Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco.
MANILA – Mayor Lacuna publicly thanked the President and First Lady for their commitment to the Pasig River’s rehabilitation. ‘We are deeply thankful for your relentless efforts and affection towards our community,’ Lacuna stated on Friday.
The mayor highlighted the success of the Pasig River Esplanade, which has quickly become a favorite spot for both local and international visitors seeking picturesque views. The esplanade extends from Jones Bridge to the Manila Post Office.
President Marcos shared the project’s overarching goal: ‘Our aim is clear yet challenging: to restore the river to its original splendor and transform it into a lively waterway that supports life, culture, and transportation.’
The ceremony for Phase 3 occurred at Plaza Mexico, Riverside Drive in Intramuros, with members of the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development, headed by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development’s Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, present.
President Marcos acknowledged the First Lady’s crucial role in monitoring the project’s advancement, noting her enthusiasm for preserving the nation’s history and culture, aiming to make the Pasig River a cornerstone of national identity.
The third phase of the project will develop 2,000 square meters of open space by merging the previously separated sections of Plaza Mexico Road. ‘This development will enhance safety, beauty, and space for public events, social gatherings, and leisurely strolls. It’s more than just a project; it’s a symbol of unity, celebrating our heritage while moving forward,’ the President remarked.
