·

In a significant move towards rehabilitation and justice, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced the release of 793 inmates, known as persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), between January 31 and February 28. This action brings the total number of PDLs released during the Marcos administration to 19,740.

The release ceremony, which took place at the BuCor headquarters in Muntinlupa City, was attended by Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. They celebrated the freedom of 182 of these PDLs.

Secretary Remulla emphasized the DOJ’s dedication to providing swift and compassionate justice. He stated, ‘Our commitment to real justice for all must be matched with a high degree of compassion and humanity.’ He encouraged the released inmates to use their rehabilitation experiences to contribute positively to their communities.

Remulla also motivated the PDLs to demonstrate personal growth and change, saying, ‘Let’s show our communities and the people outside that individuals can indeed transform.’
