Eva Air Prohibits In-Flight Use of Power Banks and Lithium Batteries

·

MANILA – Starting March 1, Eva Air will no longer allow passengers to use or charge power banks and spare lithium batteries during flights. This decision, aimed at enhancing flight safety, was announced by the airline via a recent Facebook post.

The airline has also clarified that these items are not permitted in checked luggage. Instead, they should be kept in carry-on bags, ensuring they are well-protected against any potential damage or pressure.

Eva Air recommends that passengers ensure their electronic devices are fully charged before they board the plane. The airline pointed out that most seats on their aircraft are fitted with AC power outlets and USB ports for passenger convenience.

This new policy follows a similar move by the South Korean government, which has banned power banks and e-cigarettes from being stored in the overhead compartments of flights operated by Korean airlines, effective from March 1.

The decision comes in the wake of a fire incident on a Hong Kong-bound Air Busan flight last month, which originated in Busan. The fire, which was detected in an overhead compartment, raised concerns that it might have been triggered by an electronic device or a power bank.
