New PHP14-M Pasalubong Center Near Manaoag Basilica to Enhance Tourism

·

A new PHP14-million Pasalubong Center is currently under construction next to the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Manaoag, Pangasinan, with completion expected within the year. This development is designed to enhance the tourist experience in the area, which is already a popular destination for faith-based tourism.

Manaoag Mayor Jeremy Rosario expressed strong support for the project, noting its long-term planning and its potential to showcase not only local but also provincial products. The construction began in July 2024 with an initial investment of PHP4 million, followed by an additional PHP10 million allocated for this year, aiming for completion within six to eight months.

The urgency to complete the center is driven by the need to cater to the increasing number of tourists, particularly during peak times like Holy Week. The architectural design of the Pasalubong Center is credited to Jason Buensalido and Cholo Ramirez of Barchan Architecture and Design Company in Manila.

In addition to the Pasalubong Center, Mayor Rosario highlighted other ongoing projects in Manaoag, including the renovation of Rizal Park, which has been allocated PHP20 million in the 2025 General Appropriations Act. The park will feature an open space suitable for small gatherings. Plans are also underway to reorganize and improve the vendors’ area to better the town’s public spaces.

Manaoag has seen a significant rise in tourism, with an 11 percent increase in visitor numbers in 2024, reaching 5.78 million from 5.2 million the previous year. This growth underscores the importance of developments like the Pasalubong Center in supporting the town’s thriving tourism sector.
