New P14-M Pasalubong Center Near Manaoag Basilica Set to Enhance Tourism

·

A new Pasalubong Center, valued at PHP14 million, is currently under construction next to the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Manaoag, Pangasinan. The center is expected to be finished within the year, enhancing the town’s appeal to the growing number of tourists.

Manaoag Mayor Jeremy Rosario expressed strong support for the project, noting its potential to highlight not just local but provincial products. The construction began in July 2024 with an initial investment of PHP4 million, followed by an additional PHP10 million allocated for this year, aiming for completion in six to eight months.

The urgency to complete the center is driven by the need to cater to the increasing number of visitors, particularly during peak times like Holy Week, as Manaoag continues to be a favored destination for faith tourism.

The architectural design of the Pasalubong Center was crafted by Jason Buensalido and Cholo Ramirez from Barchan Architecture and Design Company in Manila.

In addition to the Pasalubong Center, Mayor Rosario highlighted other development projects, including the renovation of Rizal Park, which has been budgeted PHP20 million under the 2025 General Appropriations Act. The park will feature an open space suitable for small gatherings.

Further plans include reorganizing and upgrading the vendors’ area to improve the town’s public spaces.

Manaoag, renowned for its Minor Basilica, experienced an 11 percent rise in tourist numbers in 2024, reaching 5.78 million visitors compared to 5.2 million the previous year.
