In a significant move to improve passenger experience at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) announced the addition of eight new shuttle buses on Monday, February 24, 2025. This latest deployment increases the total number of newly acquired shuttle buses to 12, a strategic enhancement aimed at facilitating smoother transitions for passengers with connecting flights.
Ramon S. Ang, the president of NNIC, emphasized the necessity of this expansion, stating, “NAIA is currently operating well beyond its capacity. While we are in the midst of major infrastructure upgrades, adding to our shuttle fleet is a crucial immediate step to enhance accessibility and convenience for our passengers.” This initiative is part of a broader effort to manage the airport’s high traffic and improve overall service quality.
The new shuttle buses operate 24/7, designed to significantly reduce wait times and alleviate congestion within the airport. These shuttles are not only a quick fix but also complement other ongoing improvements at NAIA, such as the expansion of terminal curbsides and the upgrade of the traffic management system, all aimed at ensuring smoother operations.
The need for such enhancements is underscored by the airport’s passenger statistics. In 2024, NAIA served 50.1 million passengers, marking a 10.43 percent increase from the previous year. This surge in passenger numbers highlights the urgency of NNIC’s efforts to upgrade and expand its facilities to meet growing demands.
The addition of these shuttle buses is a testament to NNIC’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience at NAIA, ensuring that passengers can move efficiently between terminals and reach their connecting flights on time. As NAIA continues to evolve, these improvements are vital steps toward maintaining its status as a key international gateway.
