Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) has successfully concluded a two-day rehabilitation project aimed at bolstering the power infrastructure in Central Negros. The initiative, which took place over the weekend, focused on critical sections of the network, including the Burgos Feeder 3 and the 69-kilovolt Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line, ensuring a more robust and reliable power supply for the region.
Engr. Mervin Dalian, assistant vice president of the Network Development and Operations Group, emphasized the importance of these preemptive upgrades. ‘Our goal is to mitigate risks before disasters occur. This extensive rehabilitation is part of our strategy to prepare for potential typhoons,’ he stated. The project involved replacing 18 old poles and 235 pin insulators, as well as installing tree wires from Barangay Granada to Barangay Alangilan in Bacolod City. Additionally, seven deteriorating poles and three insulators were replaced along the Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line.
This rehabilitation effort is a component of Negros Power’s comprehensive PHP2.1-billion five-year plan to modernize and upgrade the power distribution system. The first three years of the program will focus on rehabilitation and standardization, including meter replacement, installation of elevated metering centers, and the rehabilitation of major substations. The subsequent two years will concentrate on modernization and expansion.
Negros Power, a joint venture partner of Central Negros Electric Cooperative, was granted a franchise in July of the previous year to manage and operate the electricity distribution system in Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, and Silay cities, as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto. This initiative underscores Negros Power’s commitment to providing uninterrupted and efficient power services to its consumers.
