In a touching display of compassion and community spirit, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at Naujan District Jail in Oriental Mindoro organized a special outreach event on February 22, 2025, aimed at bringing joy and support to the children of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). The event, part of the BJMP Mimaropa’s ‘Kalinga sa Anak ng PDL Program,’ was a beacon of hope and resilience for the six young attendees.
The day was filled with activities designed to uplift and educate. Children received dental awareness and hygiene kits, essential for their health and well-being. The joy of gift-giving was palpable as they opened their presents, and the provision of food packs ensured they left with full hearts and stomachs. Engaging sessions like read-a-book and painting not only entertained but also fostered creativity and learning.
Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, the regional information officer, highlighted the program’s focus on maintaining family connections and communication, crucial for the morale and rehabilitation of PDLs. ‘This initiative is about bringing hope and comfort to the children, reinforcing our commitment to community service and social responsibility,’ Anglo stated in a news release.
The excitement within BJMP Mimaropa was evident, as they eagerly reached out to provide these much-needed services. Anglo noted the children’s gratitude towards the jail personnel, whose efforts made the event a success. ‘The smiles and joy on their faces were clear signs of their happiness and the value of our support,’ he added.
Under the leadership of Jail Senior Superintendent Clarence Mayangao, BJMP Mimaropa continues its mission to serve and uplift the community, always seeking new ways to assist and bring hope to those in need.
