Philippine National ID Registration Now Includes Infants Under One Year

·

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has expanded its National ID registration to include children under the age of one. This new policy requires that a parent or guardian, who must already be registered in the National ID system, accompany the child during the registration process. The child’s National ID Number will be connected to the parent’s or guardian’s ID number.

For parents or guardians who have not yet registered, the PSA allows them to do so alongside their child at any PSA registration center or co-location site. During registration, the accompanying adult must provide specific documents such as a Certificate of Live Birth, Report of Birth, Certificate of Foundling, or other documents that detail the child’s full name, date and place of birth, and the names of the parents.

The PSA will capture the child’s demographic information and a front-facing photograph at the time of registration. However, complete biometric data, including fingerprints and an iris scan, along with an updated photograph, will only be collected once the child reaches five years of age.

As of February 5, over 92 million Filipinos have successfully registered for the National ID. PSA Undersecretary and National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa praised the efforts of the PSA team, emphasizing their commitment to making the National ID system inclusive and accessible to all Filipinos. Mapa also highlighted that this milestone would encourage further development and use of the National ID, particularly in authentication services.
