In a groundbreaking move, the Philippines has successfully exported its first batch of frozen durian to China, marking a significant milestone in the country’s agricultural exports. On February 11, 2025, a container filled with PHP8.2 million worth of frozen durian meat and durian paste was shipped from Davao to Nansha District, Guangzhou, China. This historic export was celebrated by officials from Maylong Enterprises Corporation and the Department of Agriculture (DA) as a testament to the nation’s growing presence in the global market.
The initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision to enhance local productivity and secure food supplies while expanding the Philippines’ footprint on the world stage. Macario Gonzaga, DA-Field Office Davao Regional Executive Director, highlighted the significance of this export, stating, “From the fertile soils of Davao Region to China’s bustling markets, our frozen durian represents the hopes and dreams of countless farmers. This achievement showcases what we can accomplish through shared vision and purpose.”
The export was made possible after the People’s Republic of China’s General Administration of Customs approved the shipment of frozen durian products from Maylong Enterprises Corporation. May Li, the chief operating officer of Maylong, expressed her commitment to supporting local durian farmers by connecting them with international markets. “Our goal is to bridge the gap between local farmers and the global stage, ensuring that Philippine durian earns the recognition it truly deserves,” she stated.
Flor de Hasmin Bayo, officer-in-charge regional manager at the Plant Quarantine Service Port of Davao, praised the efforts of all involved in meeting China’s rigorous standards. “This achievement would not have been possible without their unwavering commitment to excellence and compliance,” Bayo remarked, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this successful export.
