In a significant move to enhance healthcare services, the Samar provincial government has inaugurated the Center for Developmental Pediatrics (CDP) in Catbalogan City. This new facility, praised by regional health experts, is designed to offer specialized medical and therapeutic interventions for children with special needs. Dr. Sheryll Baňez Palami, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician at the Eastern Visayas Medical Center, emphasized the importance of such a facility, noting that existing services at her center are insufficient to meet the growing demand. The CDP, which opened its doors on February 12 at the Spark Samar Development Hub, provides a range of therapies including occupational, speech, and physical therapy. Governor Sharee Ann Tan highlighted the initiative as a crucial step towards inclusive community development, aiming to support every child’s potential regardless of their challenges. The center also focuses on educating parents and teachers to better assist children with special needs. Managed directly by the Samar provincial hospital, the CDP ensures high-quality care and is accessible to both residents and non-residents upon completing the necessary registration and documentation.
