Philippine Coast Guard Commends Norwegian Ship for Rescuing Stranded Fisherman

·

MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has expressed gratitude to the crew of the Norwegian-flagged vessel MV Sunny Victory for their heroic rescue of a Filipino fisherman near Calavite Point, Mindoro. The incident occurred on Monday when 35-year-old Michael Conquesto found himself stranded after his small fishing boat suffered an engine failure at around 4 a.m., severing communication with his support vessel, FB Anton Char. Left adrift, Conquesto’s plight was answered when MV Sunny Victory responded to his distress signal. The PCG was informed of the situation at 3:30 p.m. via a satellite phone call from the ship’s second mate, who reported that they were en route to Sandakan, Malaysia, when they conducted the rescue. Following the operation, the PCG District Palawan facilitated Conquesto’s safe return to his mother boat, confirming he was in good health. The PCG, on behalf of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., praised the swift action of MV Sunny Victory’s crew, emphasizing the critical role of international maritime cooperation in saving lives at sea.
