In a striking revelation from the latest OCTA Research Tugon ng Masa survey, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has captured the hearts of 36% of adult Filipinos, doubling the support enjoyed by the Dutertes and their political allies. Conducted between January 25 and 31, the survey polled 1,200 respondents, with only 18% identifying as pro-Duterte and a mere 8% backing the opposition, represented by former vice president Leni Robredo and the Liberal Party.
A significant 26% of Filipinos declared themselves independent, showing no allegiance to the Marcoses, Dutertes, or the opposition, while 12% remained undecided about their political leanings.
The survey highlights a growing trend of pro-Marcos sentiment, which has been on the rise since the first quarter of 2024. This surge is particularly evident in Balance Luzon, where support jumped from 43% to 47%, and among the affluent Class ABC, where it increased from 38% to 42%. However, not all regions followed this trend; Metro Manila saw a slight dip from 42% to 39%, and Class D support fell from 38% to 36%. The most dramatic decline was in Mindanao, Duterte’s stronghold, where support plummeted from 25% to just 9%.
Regionally, pro-Marcos support varies significantly, reaching as high as 78% in the Bicol Region. Other regions with strong support include the Ilocos Region (71%), Cagayan Valley (68%), Mimaropa (57%), Eastern Visayas (51%), and Negros Island Region (52%). Conversely, support is notably lower in Metro Manila (39%), Central Luzon (35%), Calabarzon (32%), Western Visayas (34%), Central Visayas (19%), and most of Mindanao, with the exception of the Davao Region.
The survey’s margin of error is ±3% at a 95% confidence level, with subnational estimates for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao having a ±6% margin of error at the same confidence level.
