In a significant law enforcement operation, authorities in Lianga, Surigao del Sur, apprehended a high-ranking member of the New People’s Army (NPA) on Tuesday. The arrested individual, known by the alias ‘Nathan,’ aged 44, was the seventh most wanted person in the Caraga region. The arrest took place in Barangay Diatagon, as confirmed by Col. Harry Domingo, the director of the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office.
Nathan was wanted on charges of rebellion, with an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 28 in Lianga back in 2021. According to Col. Domingo, Nathan was part of the NPA’s Milisya ng Bayan, a civilian militia group.
In addition to Nathan’s arrest, Col. Domingo reported the apprehension of three other wanted individuals between February 13 and 18, including one at the regional level and two at the provincial level. These arrests underscore the police’s commitment to cracking down on criminal activities in the area.
Col. Domingo emphasized the significance of these operations, stating, ‘These arrests send a strong message that there is no haven for criminals in Surigao del Sur. We will continue our intensified operations.’ He also urged local residents to come forward with any information that could assist in capturing other fugitives.
