In a significant development for Surigao del Sur, the construction of a PHP100 million bridge in Barangay Bolhoon, San Miguel, commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. The event was led by key figures including Surigao del Sur 1st District Representative Romeo Momo Sr., San Miguel Mayor Michael Corilla, and Barangay Captain Gladys Mae Corilla.

The new bridge is expected to significantly enhance connectivity within the province, directly linking Barangay Bolhoon to other areas of Surigao del Sur. Barangay Captain Corilla expressed her enthusiasm about the project, noting that it has been a long-awaited development for the community. “We have been waiting for this bridge for years. It’s a relief to see the government finally bringing this development to fruition,” she stated during a phone interview.

The bridge is anticipated to facilitate the easier transport of agricultural and other products to markets, thereby boosting the local economy. Corilla highlighted the significance of the project, saying, “Many administrations have come and gone, but it is only now that the aspirations of Bolhoon’s residents are being realized.”

Representative Momo emphasized the safety benefits of the new bridge, recalling his 2022 promise to eliminate hazardous crossings on the old footbridge in Bolhoon. “Today, we are fulfilling that commitment,” he declared.

In addition to the bridge, Momo announced the start of construction for a PHP15 million, two-story, four-classroom school building in Bolhoon, which will cater to senior high school students, further enhancing educational opportunities in the area.
