Government Agencies Mandated to Participate in 127th Philippine Independence Day Festivities

·

In a move to honor the nation’s history, Malacañang has issued a directive requiring all government agencies to engage in the celebration of the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence. The order, detailed in Memorandum Circular 77, was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on February 13 and extends to all government bodies, including government-owned or controlled corporations. The festivities are scheduled to take place from May 28 to June 12. Local government units and the private sector are also urged to fully support and participate in the planned events and activities. The circular emphasizes that the celebration is a tribute to the freedom secured by our ancestors, the vision they held for the country’s future, and the historical legacy we strive to commemorate and respect. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines has been appointed as the lead organizer for these commemorative events. The proclamation of Philippine independence from Spanish rule was declared by the nation’s first president, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite. The directive became effective immediately upon its release on Wednesday.
