In a proactive move to streamline government functions, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla Jr. has been actively engaging with local government officials across various regions. During a press conference at Camp John Hay in Baguio City on February 19, 2025, Remulla emphasized his commitment to improving the operations of both the DILG and local government units (LGUs).
Remulla’s strategy involves direct visits to provinces to foster changes that would enhance the efficiency of LGUs and the DILG. He highlighted the importance of these visits in speeding up processes, such as scheduling meetings with local chief executives (LCEs), to maximize productivity. ‘By spending at least two hours in each province, we can address the concerns and needs of LCEs more effectively,’ Remulla explained.
A specific issue brought to his attention during his visit to Baguio was the long-pending request for a new fire station, which has been delayed for six years. Remulla assured that upon his return to Manila, he would prioritize resolving this matter.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong praised Remulla’s approach, noting that these visits are not only productive but also constructive. They facilitate open discussions and allow for immediate action on long-standing issues, such as requests for police vehicles and firetrucks.
Remulla also took a firm stance against any malfeasance within the Philippine National Police, stating his low tolerance for such behavior. He referenced a two-year-old case involving a police officer linked to illegal drugs, which he promptly addressed by initiating legal action.
