In a significant move to protect the nation’s maritime heritage, the Philippine Navy (PN) and the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) have formalized their partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The agreement, signed on February 18, 2025, at the Naval Station Jose Andrada in Manila, marks a new chapter in the preservation of the country’s seafaring past.
The MOU was inked by Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta of the PN and Jeremy Barnes, Director General of the NMP. This collaboration aims to enhance efforts in maritime archaeology and marine sciences, fostering joint research and training programs.
Jeremy Barnes emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “We are committed to strengthening the Philippine Navy and highlighting its heritage to our nation and the global community.” The initiative is expected to boost the Navy’s capabilities in conserving historical naval sites, artifacts, and underwater archaeological sites.
Vice Admiral Ezpeleta expressed his appreciation for the NMP’s dedication, saying, “I am deeply thankful to the National Museum for their commitment to advancing our maritime interests and aspirations.” This partnership not only preserves history but also strengthens national pride and international relations.
