Philippine Coast Guard Enhances Maritime Security in Bicol Region

·

In a move to bolster maritime safety, the Philippine Coast Guard in Bicol, led by Commodore Ivan Roldan, has ramped up its operations. The initiative includes the deployment of advanced radar systems and the establishment of a protocol reporting system to safeguard the region’s waters. Speaking in an interview, Commodore Roldan emphasized the continuous monitoring of foreign vessels, particularly in the eastern waters near Catanduanes. He highlighted the integration of these systems with the national headquarters and the National Coast Watch Center to keep a vigilant eye on maritime activities. Roldan also addressed the public’s safety concerns by outlining the protocols in place for handling unidentified objects, such as the drone discovered by fishermen in Masbate. He stressed the importance of fishermen reporting any unusual findings to the Coast Guard or the Philippine National Police, who would then coordinate with the Philippine Navy to trace the origin of such items.
